Several factors affecting the quality of edge banding

Machining accuracy: During the machining process, machining errors mainly come from cutting and precision cutting. Due to equipment system errors and worker processing errors, the end face of the workpiece cannot reach horizontal and cannot be kept perpendicular to adjacent faces. Therefore, during edge sealing, the edge sealing strip cannot fully contact the end face of the board, resulting in gaps or exposure of the substrate after edge sealing, which affects aesthetics. Moreover, if there are cracks in the substrate during processing, it is difficult to cover them with edge sealing.
Edge sealing materials, most of which are PVC, are greatly affected by the environment. In winter, it becomes harder and its affinity for glue decreases. In addition, with longer storage time and surface aging, its adhesive strength to glue is lower. For edge banding strips with very thin paper thickness, due to their high toughness, the thickness is too small (such as 0.3mm), resulting in defects such as uneven cutting, insufficient bonding strength, and poor trimming effect. The rework rate is high, and the waste of edge banding strips is also serious.
The adhesive used for edge sealing is specialized hot-melt adhesive. In winter, due to the lower temperature, the temperature of the glue should be slightly higher to ensure its strength. If the temperature is too high, exceeding 190 ℃, the glue will be too thin and the adhesive layer will become thinner. When it is applied to the end face of the board, the temperature will have already cooled down. In addition, the temperature of the edge sealing strip will also be low, resulting in a significant decrease in the edge sealing strength. If the temperature drops to 170 ℃, the glue will thicken a bit, but the temperature of the edge banding will be lower, and the glue and strength will not be enough. No matter how low the temperature is, the glue cannot melt well. In production, this contradiction is very prominent and difficult to resolve. In addition, the bonding quality of the adhesive itself, as well as the adaptability and affinity between the substrate and the edge banding, all affect the quality of the edge banding.
