Hot melt adhesive is the key bonding material for edge banding processes. When heated to a specific temperature, it changes from a solid to a molten state. After being coated on the surface of boards or edge bands, it cools and solidifies to form an adhesive layer, achieving a tight combination of the two materials. Essentially, it is divided into two categories: physical bonding and chemical curing.

 

Classified by operating temperature, edge banding hot melt adhesives include low-temperature adhesive (operating temperature: 140-160°C), medium-temperature adhesive (160-180°C) and high-temperature adhesive (180-210°C), which are respectively suitable for manual edge banding machines, semi-automatic edge banding machines and medium-to-large automatic linear edge banding machines.

 

Classified by chemical composition, mainstream types cover EVA hot melt adhesive, PUR hot melt adhesive, PA hot melt adhesive, PES hot melt adhesive and more. Among them, EVA hot melt adhesive is the most widely used due to its low cost and excellent wettability. PUR hot melt adhesive achieves irreversible curing through reaction with moisture, delivering superior bonding strength and weather resistance. With outstanding high temperature resistance and oil resistance, PA and PES hot melt adhesives meet the edge banding demands of special service environments.

 

Different types of hot melt adhesives vary greatly in bonding strength, temperature resistance and environmental performance. It is necessary to select the appropriate product precisely according to the edge banding process, substrate type and service environment.
