Key Measures to Prevent Performance Deterioration

Proper storage and maintenance are critical to ensuring stable performance of hot melt adhesives.Improper storage or lack of maintenance can easily lead to adhesive aging, hydrolysis, and performance degradation, negatively affecting edge banding quality.

Storage Specifications

  1. Store adhesives sealed in a dry, ventilated, and cool environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity.Recommended conditions: temperature 10–30°C, relative humidity ≤60%.
  2. Store different types of adhesives separately and clearly labeled to avoid mixing. Keep away from fire sources and oxidizing agents.
  3. For moisture-sensitive adhesives such as TPU, pay special attention to sealed moisture protection to prevent hydrolysis and performance deterioration.
  4. The general storage shelf life is 6–12 months. Use within the validity period. Expired products may only be used after passing performance testing.

Equipment & Operational Maintenance

  1. For short-term non-operation of the edge banding machine, lower the temperature of the pressure plate and glue hose to about 120°C to avoid long-term high-temperature aging.
  2. If the machine is idle for more than 30 minutes, turn off the adhesive application system to prevent yellowing and aging from idle heating.
  3. When changing adhesive types, thoroughly clean the hose and pressure plate with a special cleaning agent (e.g., PUR cleaner) to avoid performance issues caused by adhesive mixing.
  4. Regularly inspect the glue hose for blockages or leaks, and remove accumulated adhesive in time to ensure smooth adhesive delivery.
