How To Use Edge Banding

1, Wooden edge banding
It is mainly suitable for pasting and decorating the edges of solid wood furniture panels, and can only be manually pasted in operation. The adhesive used for pasting wooden edge banding is water-soluble adhesive or strong adhesive. When pasting, as long as the edge of the board is flat, there are no specific requirements for the ambient temperature. Due to the hygroscopic nature of wood, its moisture content can be affected by external temperature and humidity. Therefore, the choice of adhesive should be based on seasonal changes and the requirements for moisture diffusion and penetration. Only by mastering the selection of adhesive types can the edge banding and board form a good "rivet fixing effect" through the penetration of wood fibers. In addition, furniture decorated with wooden edge banding must undergo surface painting treatment.
2, PVC edge banding
Mainly suitable for edge sealing of micro standing boards, density boards, particleboard, plywood, and solid wood edges can also be used. In practical use, manual and mechanical pasting methods can be used to complete the task, but mechanical pasting is the main method to improve work efficiency. The adhesive used for pasting PVC edge strips is universal glue, hot melt adhesive, and white latex, but hot melt adhesive is better. During the pasting process, the PVC edge banding is firmly adhered to the surface of the wooden board through mechanical interlocking, physical attraction, and chemical bonding. Therefore, the flatness of the substrate edge profile is highly required during pasting, with a general tolerance of no more than 0.1mm. The temperature of the board and the ambient temperature for pasting should be at 18 ℃. The curing time of hot melt adhesive is generally 30 minutes, but the choice of low-temperature adhesive or high-temperature adhesive depends on the thickness of the edge sealing strip.
3, Melamine edging strip
The scope of application is basically similar to that of PVC edge banding. But the best way is to seal the edges of the fireproof board. Both manual and mechanical edge sealing are acceptable during operation; The requirements for adhesives such as hot melt glue, universal glue, and white emulsion glue are not high; The use of flat or roll adhesive allows for the selection of adhesive in the market; When using hot melt adhesive as the bonding agent, the temperature of the adhesive should be controlled at 120 ℃ to 160 ℃, the pressure should be 4-6/2, the curing time should be 20 to 50 seconds, and the ambient temperature for indoor bonding should be 15 ℃. Considering that melamine edge banding has stronger permeability to hot melt adhesive and universal adhesive than PVC, it is necessary to reduce the amount of adhesive coating when sticking to the board, generally controlled within the range of 6-8g/linear meter. In mechanical edge sealing, the visual effect is that the adhesive layer is evenly coated and the mesh is clear; The operating speed of mechanical adhesive coating is 30-50 meters per minute, and its edge sealing and pasting speed is the fastest among various edge sealing strips. This can ensure the quality of pasting and improve work efficiency.
